Art Offenders Exhibition

In September, in collaboration with Art Squat we held an exhibition at Out of the Blue Drill Hall showing a collection of work by the students at our Alternative School. We explored the interaction between art, mental health, social identity and personal perception through spray painting, film, sculpture, design, music and photography. Art at the Alternative School allows young people the chance to create space for escapism and well-being within what can sometimes be hectic and stressful days. Our team of young people are called “The Art Offenders” and you can find them on instagram. Thank you to David Bishop for the photographs.

Sales from the exhibition are raising money for Edinburgh based charity, Turn the Tables which offers workshops to improve mental health for those affected by homelessness. Just over £600 was raised during the event and this, along with any funds raised over the coming weeks, will be donated to Robbie and his charity.

We are really proud to have been able to showcase the incredible work that our students created throughout the year. It is so important our young people know their worth. Having people come along to this exhibition and purchasing some of their work had made a significant impact on their well-being, confidence and self-esteem. A huge thank you to our art teacher Sarah-Jane Henderson for making this happen!
