New Youth Work and Education Building
We are hugely excited as plans move forwards for our new Youth Work and Education building. As many of you will know, our current space was built from second-hand port-a-cabins seven years ago and are now falling apart and energy inefficient.
When we first opened in 2008 our education and youth work delivery took place in the clubhouse. In 2012 the clubhouse was extended as our business grew. At the same time demand for our youth work services increased and we started running our onsite education programmes. In 2016 we opened our dedicated Youth Work and Education building, a space also used to deliver our Alternative School provision. Most importantly it is the social home, the safe space where local young people come to have fun, socialise, interact and develop as individuals.
Demand for our provision continues to grow and the new and larger replacement building will create increased opportunities for us to engage with more local people, mostly youngsters. We are proud that our young people have been crucial in the design of the building and it will include a sensory room, a room for critical “one-to-one” work, a dining kitchen area plus a large club room kitted out for a range of activities. We will also have an external covered area for art projects as well as a garden area.
Our current building is part of the social fabric of people's lives, a place where they feel a tangible sense of pride and belonging. Our new building will help us to deepen and increase our social impact.
