Hopscotch Holiday Fun
In May we attended a residential with Hopscotch Children’s Charity on Ardnamurchan, this allowed 12 young people the opportunity to spend a week in the North of Scotland making Magic Memories. The holiday allowed young people from the "big city" to expand their horizons, see new parts of Scotland and try some new, and often challenging activities. For many in the group, it was their first time away from home and from their families and friends.
This year we got to visit a Croft which was a new and amazing experience for all of us. We fed the horse (Mr Murphy) some carrots, spent time with the sheep, collected hens eggs and got taken a walk by some goats! This was one of the activities that the young people unanimously enjoyed! We also visited Glenfinnan Viaduct where we got to see the Harry Potter steam train and we took the Gondola at Nevis Range. We do this every year as it is such a unique opportunity to take part in - everyone was in awe of the view and we all went on a hike which was quite the challenge and a source of great pride! We also took part in beach walks, yoga, cycling, night walks and had a wee party. New friendships were made and others were strengthened. We'd often only see some of the young people who came along to the residential in school and now they are regular attenders at our youth clubs. We had lots of positive feedback but our favourite was from one of the young people who, when asked if they had learnt anything new about themselves during the week said: "if I be brave, I can make friends".
