Spartans Community Foundation
Earlier this year we made the decision to change our name to Spartans Community Foundation. After consulting various people and some key partners, also weighing up the pros vs. cons of a name change, the overriding feeling was that now was the right time to do so.
To be perfectly honest we’ve come close to changing our name before. I’ve lost count over the years of the number of times on meeting someone for the 1st time that I’ve had to explain our charity mission and purpose isn’t to develop elite football players. Unfortunately, the connotations of our original name meant that lots of people believed this to be the case.
I’m hoping our name change to Spartans Community Foundation will better reflect who we are and articulate more effectively the wide range of work we do to help improve the quality of peoples’s lives living in North Edinburgh.
Over the course of the past few months we have been updating our name on site and behind the scenes. With effect from 1st September 99% of our communications and signage will show our new name. This change aligns us more clearly and appropriately with other organisations in our world of changing lives through the power of sport, both in the UK and on the international front. That said, for most people and for those whom we engage with in our local community each day, our widely used name is and always will simply be ‘Spartans’.
